Avocado Hummus {SRC}

It’s time for Secret Recipe Club again.  This month I was assigned Bobbi’s Kozy Kitchen.  It didn’t take me long to pick a recipe to make.  As soon as I saw Avocado Hummus I knew I had to try it.  We love hummus…the kids will eat hummus in a bowl with a spoon.  We are also crazy about avocados.  This recipe doesn’t use any tahini so I was curious how it would turn out.  It turned out great!  The avocados add a wonderful creaminess to the hummus.  Hasan wasn’t a big fan but I think it was because it was green.  He had the same reaction when I made Green Monster last year.  Which is weird because green is his favorite colour.  Bilal on the other hand loved it!  Thank you Bobbi for this recipe.  I will be making it again soon!

Avocado Hummus
Adapted from Bobbi’s Kozy Kitchen

1 19 oz can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 avocados, pitted and diced
1 garlic clove, minced or pressed
handful of cilantro, roughly chopped
4 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 cup water
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste (I used about 1 tsp salt)

In a food processor add all the ingredients and process.  Add more water if you would like it thinner.

  1. I have been wanting to make this version of hummus for a while. Now that it is warmer it seems like the perfect time. Happy Reveal Day!

  2. This sounds so good! I've read about people substituting mayo with avocados, and even avocado pudding! So I bet this hummus was super creamy. I'm sure you didn't even miss the tahini because the avocado took care of the creaminess.
I also am loving your pictures girl! I feel like with every post your photography is getting better and better! I love it! šŸ™‚

  3. You know what? I might just make this tonight as a little treat before dinner, as I'm thinking of making some type of tacos or tostadas as our meal

    Love your presentation too…

thanks for the inspiration! and have a wonderful reveal day!

  4. I love that this recipe has no tahini/sesame oil in it. My son is deathly allergic to it, but loves hummus. It's such a healthy alternative to chip dip too.

    Happy Reveal Day

  5. Well, I just made it! DELICIOUS!!!!!

absolutely delicious! It made more than enough for the two of us, so I am freezing half, I think this type of spread freezes reasonably well

thanks for inspiring me, I love the color, the taste, and the texture!

  6. Yummy! I love hummus and guacamole, so putting them together is such a great idea! Great SRC pick!

  7. Thank you Henna! I've never heard of substituting mayo with avocados..sounds like a much healthier option. Thanks about the pictures..I take an insane amount of pictures hoping to get just one decent pic. I've got shaky hands and most of them are blurry. Now that the weather is nice I've been taking pictures in the backyard which is much better light than in our house…of course a little tweaking in picmonkey always helps šŸ™‚

  9. avocado hummus is the best!!! Also, if you like cauliflower – simply steam or roast (if you have time) and replace chickpeas- it will be delightful

  10. I ran across this recipe this morning and immediately made it. I really can't believe how yummy it is. We are on a heart healthy diet and the beans and avocados fit perfectly. I will enjoy getting more acquainted with your site and things to come. Marilyn
